Customer Spotlight: Gangplank Spirits and Preserves

This weeks edition of our customer spotlight blog is here! This week the lovely Sam at Gangplank Spirits and Preserves is chatting with us, all about her narrowboat and business.

Gangplank Spirits and Preserves is a foraging based spirits and preserves company based on a narrowboat in the UK. Originally from Cumbria, Sam travels the UK on her narrow boat, foraging, making produce and selling it along the way!

Sounds like a great life to me!

What is Gangplank Spirits and Spirits?

Gangplank Spirits and Preserves is the name of my business, it used to be Cake on the Cut, when I mostly made cakes, but I've changed my products and now make foraged fruit spirits and preserves made on a travelling narrowboat.

Where did the name come from?

The name was thought of by my partner as we were travelling on the Kennet & Avon canal at the time and couldn't get into the bank so had to use the gangplank all the time to get onto land, we thought it sounded suitably boaty.

The added details on the bottles are great. Where did the idea for the anchor etc come from?

The anchor detail was inspired by one of my favourite gins Ophir, I love the gin and the look they created.

I wanted to create my own look that suited what I do and an anchor is an obvious symbol of boating.

You have a very wide range of spirits. Where do you get your ideas from?

Most of the gin flavours are inspired by the fruit I forage or swap with people, I love to cook and I'm pretty experimental with flavours, but sometimes I just keep it simple.

Which is your favourite gin flavour from your range?

My whisky flavour, fig, came from a friend who is a big whisky drinker and it took me a year to add and take away ingredients before I was finally happy with the recipe.

My favourite drink tends to change with the seasons, but my current favourite is pink grapefruit and pomegranate, it's very light, refreshing and sharp.

Which of our bottles do you purchase?

I buy the mini spirit bottles, the 5 & 3 set gift boxes and my cordial bottles from Sen5es.

What's it working with Sen5es as a bottle supplier?

I am a difficult customer as I move around so much and don't have a delivery address, so I have to click & collect or find a pub/shop that doesn't mind me delivering to them.

Stuart is always really helpful when I'm having delivery issues and often calls or emails to make sure it's going to the right place.

Would you recommend us to other businesses?

What I love about Stuart and Sen5es is that he really cares about his customers, you're not just a number, you're a real person and if there's a problem he calls you straight away.

Delivery is always super fast, nothing is ever broken and the products are high quality,  and very competitively priced, as a customer what more could you want?

I highly recommended using Sen5es for all the above reasons.

Thank you Sam for giving us an insight in to your life and business! What a great way to run a business and live life.

We have some amazing customers don't we? We are very lucky to have so many wonderful customers and we love learning about them all.
