Festive Mulled Wine Recipe

With just over 1 week until Christmas we thought we'd share one last festive recipe for the year! Hopefully this will help with the cold evenings and get you in to the festive spirit.

This recipe is great for making ahead of your festive celebrations and storing in one of our affordable glass wine bottles. We would suggest using our 750ml Green Bordeaux Wine bottle as the green glass is perfect for storing red wine in. And when combined with our burgundy novatwist cap it gives a very festive vibe.

Simple recipes are the best and this is no exception. This recipe will only take a few minutes to prepare and about an hour to cook. Follow along below for the full recipe.

Ingredients

  • 750ml bottle red wine (either Merlot, Zinfandel or Garnacha)

  • 1 x large cinnamon stick

  • 2 x star anise

  • 4 x cloves

  • 2 x strips lemon zest

  • 4 tbsp caster sugar

Equipment

Method

  1. Put all your ingredients in a large pan and cook on a low heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  2. Remove from the heat and allow to cool.

  3. Leave to infuse for about 30 minutes or so.

  4. Use your funnel, ladle and sieve to decant your mulled wine in to your bottle.

  5. To serve. Pour in to individual mugs and warm in the microwave. Heat the mulled wine, making sure it doesn't boil. It will only take around 1 minute in the microwave, depending on the power.

We told you this was a simple and easy recipe! If you want to re-use the original wine bottle for your mulled wine, we won't hold it against you! We love recycling and that's why we love glass. It's endlessly recyclable. So we are happy to promote recycling as well as new bottles!

The great thing about using a new bottle is that you can add your own labels and designs. The lids will offer a better seal too. So it depends on your time frame. But remember if you need some brand new empty wine bottles, you know where to go!
